Slow down, fully experience, enjoy, intentionally.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the intentional and nonjudgemental awareness of the present moment. Mindfulness encourages us to notice what’s going on around us with out: clinging to the past or present and placing judgement on what we notice.
Practicing Mindfulness
Meditation
Focus on breathing, body sensations, awareness of thoughts and sensations
Tip: It’s very common to have unwanted thoughts pop into your head when you initially practice slowing down and reflecting. Acknowledge the thoughts and remain nonjudgmental of the them as they enter your mind. Simply notice the unwanted thoughts and continue moving forward with your mindful practice.
Movement
Stretching routine, walking, experiencing nature
Tip: A great mindfulness skill is the 5 senses coping skill, perfect for practicing while on a nature walk or sitting quietly to ground yourself. The 5 senses coping skill is a great way to slow down and reconnect with the present moment.
Our Positive Practices guided journal can walk you through this very skill.
Reflection
Prayer, journaling, connection with your spirituality
Tip: Spend intentional moments throughout your busy day to slow down. You can decide how you want to reflect, and for how long. Your journal entry can be 3 pages or 3 bullet points. Your prayer can be a moment or a few moments. Just have intentional time where you reflect on your feelings, thoughts, and actions.
