Welcome to a new Lotus Letter!
May is wrapping up and we’re almost half way through the year. You’re doing a great job, love.
Now’s a great time to reflect on our goals, intentions, and habits.
Creating Habits and Goals
Habits
Have you ever told yourself you’re going to make a real change and adopt a new healthy habit, then fall off by the second or third week?
Maybe you said start working out 5x a week, or work on your new hobby every day. Then before you even hit a month you abandoned this new habit as “too hard”.
Tip: If you’re trying to build a new habit you MUST start small. Small consistent changes are the key to lasting habits. If you are someone that rarely exercises, going from working out 0 days a week to 5 days a week is not realistic. But 1-2 days a week is a manageable starting point that you can master first, and then continue to build on.
(If exercise is a new habit you’re working on, be sure to consult with a health professional).
Reflection:
What new habits do you want to build? Have you set realistic intentions?
Goals
Do you have big goals and future plans, but find yourself regularly abandoning them?
Try breaking your goals into short-term, mid-term, and long-term wins. Instead of just writing "get my PhD in 10 years," think about the smaller steps that actually get you there. Maybe it's saving a specific amount of money. Maybe it's moving into a job with more flexibility.
Tip: Your big goals need smaller steps behind them. The PhD in 10 years is great, but what does the next year look like? The next six months? Start there.
Reflection:
What is one big goal you have, and what is the very next small step you can take toward it?
Mindful Moment
In our last Lotus Letter, we talked about intentionality with our daily self-care. What are 2-3 daily self-care practices you can build into your routine? Self-care is a daily practice, love. Not just the luxury appointments we pencil in.
If you’re having a hard time coming up with ideas, there’s much more on this is our Positive Practices guided journal. For now, reflect on the small steps you can take to pour into your wellness- drinking enough water, feeding your body mindfully, and taking intentional breaks are great places to start!
